- Archwire: A wire that connects the brackets and guides tooth movement. Typically, four to five wires are used over the entire course of treatment. We start with a thin, flexible wire and progress to a larger, stiffer wire. Each wire is utilized for a different purpose. The flexible wires straighten out crooked teeth, meaning you’ll notice your teeth straighten quickly, within the first few weeks! The stiffer wires allow Dr. Botsford to adjust the shape of your arches. She loves creating wide, broad smiles!

The Damon System's patented slide mechanism holds the archwire while allowing it to move freely. This reduces friction that can slow down treatment and eliminates the need for elastic color ties used in traditional braces. Our adult patients enjoy NOT needing to add color ties to their braces. And, if you ARE excited about adding color ties to your braces, that is still an option with Damon braces!
Without elastic ties, your Damon braces collect less harmful bacteria, making it easier to maintain excellent oral hygiene throughout treatment. Over time, the bone surrounding the teeth grows to accommodate the teeth's new positions.
